Yamaha EZ-220 is the perfect keyboard for learning, for playing. The EZ-220 is a keyboard with 61 touch-sensitive keys that light up, wireless connection to the free Page Turner iPad application and 100 preset songs with digital sheet music that make the Yamaha EZ-200 the perfect companion for learning to play the keyboard.
A USB TO HOST port allows you to connect the keyboard to your computer to use a wide range of music programs for both learning and entertainment. A large array of 392 voices lets you play strings, guitars, brass, synthesizers, drums and more.

Let’s begin our review of the Yamaha EZ-220, a mid-range musical keyboard, by first considering one of its most important elements, namely the keys. In consideration of this aspect, we have chosen to give the Yamaha EZ-220 a grade of 8 out of 10.
With a total number of 61 keys and, therefore, with an extension of 5 octaves, this keyboard proves to be very versatile and represents an excellent compromise for those looking for an instrument to practice on various musical genres and to play in company.
The keys, however, are not weighted, making the Yamaha EZ-220 unsuitable for studying classical repertoire or replacing an acoustic piano. However, the keyboard is dynamic, therefore sensitive to the various degrees of intensity of the touch and able to reproduce the various accents.
What has been said so far suggests that this musical keyboard is aimed at those who prefer to play modern and contemporary music (electronic music, rock, pop, etc.).
Instruments and Effects: Rated 7.5 out of 10:
Let’s now consider the set of sampled instruments – that is, the recorded sounds and musical instruments – and the different effects available on the Yamaha EZ-220. In this regard, we have chosen to give this model a rating of 7.5 out of 10. First of all we have 392 sampled instruments at our disposal, which include various types of piano, organs, percussion, synthesizers and numerous wind instruments. In addition to this vast offering, this keyboard has a polyphonic capacity of as many as 32 notes which means that it is capable of playing up to a maximum number of 32 notes simultaneously.
We also note the presence of a controller for the output volume, but there are no equalizers or systems to adjust the various frequencies, which is not surprising in a keyboard of this price range. A little disappointing, however, is the absence of Pitch-Bend and a ring modulator that would have been highly appreciated in live performances and that we would expect to find in a similar model.
Features and accessories: Rated 8.5 out of 10:
In the third section of our review, we focus instead on the functions and accessories that this musical keyboard is equipped with, to which we have decided to give a rating of 8.5 out of 10: in this area we have in fact found some of the elements that we appreciated most of the Yamaha EZ-220.
First of all, we find a built-in electronic metronome, accessible via the appropriate button and of which we can adjust the beat speed: we take this opportunity to reiterate how important and useful the metronome is to refine their sense of rhythm for anyone who has chosen to approach the world of music. Also from this point of view, we also point out the presence of 100 pieces of music on which it will be possible to practice and refine one’s technique.
Another useful learning companion is offered by the Yamaha Education Suite and Fingering Guide didactic functions: the first is an educational system based on the 100 melodic tracks mentioned above which, by illuminating the keys concerned, shows step by step the notes to be played. with the right and left hand, while the Fingering Guide explains the correct position of our fingers and provides clear and detailed information through images that appear on the display screen, as you can see in the photo above.
In addition to this didactic apparatus, the Yamaha EZ-220 offers auto-recording, that is, the ability to record your own performances and listen to them again to have a better awareness of what our most frequent mistakes are.
On the accessories side, however, we point out that there is no sustain pedal supplied, but we still have the appropriate input that will allow us to connect one if necessary. There are two built-in amplifiers, with a power of 2.5 watts, which guarantee sufficiently high output volumes to play in an enclosed and quiet place. However, if you want to play in public or in large rooms, you will need to connect the keyboard to an external amplifier.
Among the accessories supplied we also find a book for learning music and a useful music stand, to be installed directly on the keyboard.
Connectivity and Power: Rated 8 out of 10:
In the last part of our review dedicated to the Yamaha EZ-220 we analyze its connectivity and its power system, to which we have chosen to assign a vote of 8 out of 10.
At our disposal we have first of all an input for the FC4 sustain pedal (which, we remember again, must be purchased separately) and an AUX output, through which it is possible to connect our headphones, a stereo system, a mixer or an external amplifier to the keyboard. .
This model also has a USB input that we can use to connect the keyboard to a computer or tablet that allow us to use some interesting applications to improve our technique.
The power supply system is hybrid: the Yamaha EX-220 can in fact work with 6 AA batteries or with the power supply, which however must be purchased separately.
